TIPS & TRICKS

Pro Tip: Cotton has no elastic spring, so uneven purl rows can show as stripes in stockinette, known as rowing out. If you see it, purl with a needle 0.5 mm smaller or knit in the round. Work ribbing 0.5-1 mm smaller than the body so hems don't flare.

Is DROPS Muskat good for amigurumi?

Yes, mercerized cotton like Muskat makes crisp, glossy toys that hold their shape. Crochet it on a 3–3.5 mm hook rather than the 4 mm on the label, so the fabric is tight enough to hide the stuffing. Safety eyes of 6–9 mm suit most toys at this weight, and Rico Stuffing Fibres fill them evenly.

How many balls of DROPS Muskat for a summer top?

A short-sleeved top in size M usually takes 6–9 balls. DK summer tops typically need 600–850 m, and each 50 g ball holds 100 m, so 600–850 m ÷ 100 m gives 6–9 balls. A child's top needs around 3–5 balls, depending on age.

DROPS Muskat vs DROPS Safran: what is the difference?

Muskat is the thicker, shinier one: a mercerized DK cotton with 100 m per 50 g for 4 mm needles, in DROPS yarn group B. DROPS Safran is a finer sport weight, 160 m per 50 g on 3 mm needles, in group A. Muskat suits tops and bags; Safran suits fine baby clothes and small amigurumi.

What yarn can replace DROPS Muskat in a pattern?

Any DROPS yarn group B yarn at 21 stitches per 10 cm can stand in, such as DROPS Belle for a softer, drapier cotton-viscose-linen fabric. Calculate by metres: a pattern needing 10 balls of Muskat, 1,000 m, needs about 9 balls of Belle at 120 m each.
